Root Canal Therapy – Ottawa, ON
We Can Stop Your Tooth Pain
There are many possible causes for a toothache, but oftentimes, the root of the problem lies in the pulp. Damage to your tooth can leave the pulp open to attacks from bacteria, leading to an infection. Since the pulp contains the tooth’s nerves, an infection can cause severe discomfort. Our team at Smyth Dental Centre may find that the only way to stop your pain for good without removing the tooth is to perform root canal therapy; call us if you’d like to learn more about this procedure.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

After numbing your mouth, we’ll place a small sheet known as a dental dam to keep the tooth free of saliva during the procedure. A small opening will be made in the tooth, and the pulp will be taken out. We’ll give the pulp chamber a thorough cleaning before filling it with a plastic substance called gutta-percha. In most cases, you will need to have a crown or another type of restoration placed to protect the tooth that was treated.
